China police warns against Telecom scams
Recent days China’s city, reported Shanghai is facingtelecom scams from scammer. local police authorities say, this type of scam
being held from outside the china, so shutting down, the server of those
scammer is hard. So they warn and held general awareness program about this.
People who have sound knowledge of computer , doing this types of scam and also computer literate people are suffering from these technology based scam.
Nature of Scam
You receive calls from persons claiming they are from
government authorities and you are in their investigation process. They further say, they suspect you because of
they get warn you are involve in fraud or money laundering cases. So to help in
this investigation process, you need to fill, online form. Where they ask you
to fill all your personal details, security number and then transfer money to a
“security account”.
Due to strict government rule, many local people are filling
these forms and transferring money to fake “security account”. According to the
city’s public security bureau, more than 1200 cases of telecom fraud have been
prevented, potentially worth 60 million yuan ($9.77 million).
Additionally, not only people who are able to use internet
are victim. But also older citizens are being victims. Scammers are asking
older people to go nearby ATMs and choose ‘English’ as language and select
upgrading of their Credit or Debit cards, but actually that meant ‘transfer’.
Affected cities police have launched a series of awareness against
these scams. Authorities say, only the police have the right to release such an
order, but police would never set up such an account and require people to
transfer money when issuing warrant for their arrest.
